“Yeah It’s on. ”
Why I chose data science, this’s a quite long story.
Back to my age of 10, one day my parents were watching the weather forecasting, I was so curious about why the host can “forecast” the future weather, (although sometimes they are not accurate), in short, how they see future things and have confident to broadcast to public. I asked my parents but they said they want to leave this as an assignment for me. However, in that period, internet was yet popularized and the ordinary family cannot afford the cost of computer and internet. This problem therefore blocks my way to find my answer. I ever asked elders, friends, teachers and read magazines, none of them give me at least few senses, I realized that there is no one even wonder the why behind the screen. At that time, I refused to wait for the answer falling from the sky, rather, with a great effort, I finally found an elder who was able to refer me to borrow the only one computer in my town and use the internet that takes five minutes to open a website to do the researches.
Eventually and luckily, I looked through some blogs and papers and get some clues about the core point of weather forecasting – DATA, from radar, meteorological station, meteorological satellite etc and then analyzed by either experts or applied interdisciplinary models. Ever since then, this experience not only gets me the picture of the significance of data, but also triggered my interest in how, why and what model can make such predictions. This is also the reason why I choose statistics as my undergrad major, since from there, I can learn how, why, and what model is able to forecast the future, which answered my long-standing questions.

It was the first and the most inspirational and passionate time that I have ever had, this experience explicitly guides me to the road of data science and expose myself to new field that I can exercise my curiosity. Later, during my undergrad studies, I found that data science has a large breadth and depth and I undoubtedly acquire a deeper understanding on it by practicing in data science projects. One most important thing that I have learned is that they are indeed influencing something, which yields me a feeling that those works are truly meaningful and discloses a fresh new way to achieve my personal value.

While studying and practicing more, the masks of data science has uncovered gradually, my initial “interest” in data science has turned out to be a “career” in my deep heart, that is to say, I have made up my mind that data science will be field that I fight for in the next ten years. However, when approaching to end of my undergrad life, I do realize that what I have learned was limited and yet satisfy my curiosity. I thus decided to pursue a master degree to learn more about this field. Fortunately, during my master, I have not only applied what I have learned from undergrad on the new project, but also learned the mechanism that I have not been exposed to before. To put it briefly, as a fresh grad, I have a lot of potentials regarding personal career development, having said that, one thing that I am absolutely certain is that data science is always my pursuit. Supplemented with my curiosity, enthusiasm, and technical practical skills, I am confident that I will achieve personal value in Data Science field
